Charity cakes are a tasty success

Hungry staff have helped to raise over £130 for The Harry Johnson Trust and the Shropshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association at our Shrewsbury office.

Organised by our Marketing Co-ordinator, Jackie Young, as part of our annual fund raising effots, the event was a great success.

“Staff really entered into the spirit of the challenge creating all kinds of show-stoppers and we were incredibly impressed by the skills of some of our colleagues,” said Jackie.

“It’s clear that our two chosen charities mean a lot to everyone this year, and we all wanted to do our very best to help boost our fund raising total.”

Winner of the official “show stopper” prize on the day was payroll clerk Lauren Gorman, who won a bottle of wine for her amazing “Burger” cake.

“Lauren’s creation really was like something you’d see on the Great  British Bake Off, and we just couldn’t believe the effort she’d gone to – it was fantastic,” said Jackie.

Dyke Yaxley chooses two charities every year to support and nominations are chosen from suggestions from the staff.

The Harry Johnson Trust was set up by Sally and Stephen Johnson in July 2014, in memory of their son, Harry (aged 7) who died after suffering with Double Hit Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The Trust offers gestures of support to children with cancer who receive care from the Oncology team at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford through a range of projects including: Harry’s Hampers, Harry’s Holidays, Harry’s Hugs, Perfect Pillows, and Family Fun.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focused on MND care, research and campaigning.

They help to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers, and fund and promote research with the aim of bringing the world closer to a cure.
