Cleaning up for charity

Staff worked themselves into a right lather - all in the name of charity.

The teams from Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants and Henshalls Insurance Brokers work in adjacent offices in Old Potts Way, in Shrewsbury.

And so they decided to pool their resources and roll up their sleeves to set up a charity car wash on their office car park on one of the hottest days of the summer so far.

The aim was to make as much money as possible for Dyke Yaxley’s chosen charities for 2014/15 – the Shrewsbury branch of Parkinson’s UK and Autism West Midlands – and they successfully raised over £150.

Jackie Young, who is part of Dyke Yaxley’s Corporate Social Responsibility team, said: “Every year we nominate a charity or charities and focus our efforts on raising as much cash as possible for them.

“And it was particularly good to see our colleague Julie Selley’s son, William, at the event, as he has autism and he was the inspiration for choosing Autism West Midlands this year.”

The teams have been extremely successful in the past two years thanks to their dedication and commitment to the causes they’ve supported.

Last year they raised over £2,000 for Shrewsbury Samaritans and Stay – a Telford charity that helps homeless young people, providing housing and support for individuals and families across the Telford and Wrekin area.

And the year before, they handed a cheque for just over £3,100 to the Severn Hospice after smashing their previous fund-raising target.

“Everyone is always so incredibly generous and supportive of our efforts, and we’re determined to continue to work hard so we can make it a hat-trick of successful fundraising campaigns,” said Jackie.
