SMEs to be given a helping hand to boost growth
A new Government training programme aimed specifically at developing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) is scheduled to begin in March 2012.
The Coaching for Growth Consortium has now signed a contract to deliver the programme, which up to 10,000 high growth potential businesses are set to benefit from.
Coaches will provide on-going structured support, and will work alongside senior management members to create, develop and implement strategies to boost business.
The programme forms part of the Government's drive to support SMEs by improving leadership, helping to raise and gain access to finance, and increasing export performance.
Comprising of eleven local delivery partners, the programme will also run alongside Mentorsme, an existing mentoring service, but will instead solely focus on high growth potential businesses by coaching executive teams.
Mark Prisk, Business and Enterprise Minister, said the programme will be vital for the continuing success of businesses and their ability to help the UK economy grow.
"This programme is the latest step the Government is taking to ensure small and mid-sized businesses are well equipped to thrive here and abroad.
I know from talking to businesses that they face a range of challenges in growing, such as raising finance, securing new customers and strengthening their leadership capabilities. I want to make sure that we can give them the tools to overcome these obstacles and the success of this programme will be judged on the level of growth it delivers to the UK economy."
