Over 90 cricket fans turned out to see some of the most recognisable names in the English game.

Mark Ramprakash and Nick Knight were the special guests at the Dyke Yaxley cricket at The Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury.

Dyke Yaxley works closely with the Professional Cricketers’ Association and regularly welcomes stars from the England set-up to the county.

Managing director, Laurie Riley, said: “It was an excellent event and a really timely appearance from Mark Ramprakash as on the same day, he was appointed as England’s new batting coach.

“The speakers shared their experiences of playing at county and international level with our guests, before giving their views on the current state of English cricket and answering a host of questions from the floor.”

A raffle of cricket memorabilia also took place, raising over £1,500 for Dyke Yaxley’s chosen charities – Autism West Midlands and Parkinson’s UK.

Mark Ramprakash is one of the greatest first-class run scorers of all time and began his career at the age of 17.

Following his move to Surrey from Middlesex in 2001, he rose above his peers, averaging over 100 in 2006 and finishing his career in 2012 with 114 first-class hundreds to his name, joining an elite group of century-making centurions.

He’s also well-known for being the second consecutive cricketer to win BBC Television’s Strictly Come Dancing!

Nick Knight was a prolific county player for Essex and Warwickshire and one of England’s leading one-day batsmen, who averaged over 40 from the top of the order in 100 one day internationals, with five hundreds and 25 fifties.
