The DY Steps Challenge 2017

Nov 1, 2017 | Uncategorized

We’ve been busy putting our best foot forward to raise vital cash for our two chosen charities, Midlands Air Ambulance  and Shropshire Blood Bikes over the last 8 weeks, by taking part in “The DY Steps Challenge 2017”.   We were also joined by colleagues from Flex IT and Kingsland Wealth Management.

As part of the iniative, teams of four employees were given a pedometer to calculate their total steps over the course of eight weeks.  Our Marketing Co-Ordinator, Jackie Young, said: “The average daily recommended step count for people across the UK is 10,000, but for those of us working in an office environment, it’s not uncommon to clock up fewer than 5,000 steps a day.

“Our aim with the Steps Challenge was to give staff some extra motivation to get moving, which will have boosted their own health and helped to raise charity cash as the project progresses too.”

Jackie said the teams were selected by pulling names from a hat to keep things fair.

We’re proud to say, from this challenge we have raised £135.52 and overall, the total steps for all teams was a staggering, 22,762,682!!!

We are happy (and sad) to announce the winning team of The DY Steps Challenge 2017 with a total of 2,691,765 steps is… ‘ Keep on Moving! ‘ which includes, Keith Higgins, Denise McCartney, Hayley Price and Lauren Gorman.

The Individual winner, who totalled 991,559 steps over the challenge was… Ian Middleton!

Congratulations all, enjoy your fizz and trophies!!

Denise was proud of herself and her team, Keep On Moving!

Ian Looking chuffed with his win!

Unfortunately, not everyone did great (even though they all tried so hard!!) The team with the least steps overall (1,409,700 steps) were… Holy Step’O’Moley, which includes, Emma Williams, Nicole Groake, Philippa Jones and Mark Bramall. They were awarded with The Wooden Spoon.

Emma and Nicole, not looking very impressed with their spoons!

Well done to all who took part and we look forward to doing it again next year!

Each year DY staff select two local causes and commit to spending the following twelve months raising as much cash as possible for those organisations.

This year we are backing Midlands Air Ambulance – which funds and operates three air ambulances serving Shropshire, Staffordshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

It’s the largest air ambulance operations region in the UK and requires over £7 million a year to keep its three air ambulances operational, all donated by the public and local businesses.

The second charity is Shropshire Blood Bikes – an urgent volunteer service providing transportation of blood products for free to NHS hospitals across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.
