Congratulations to one of our Trainee Accountants,  Rhian Harding, who was one of six people singled out at the recent Institute of Chartered Accountants’ West Midlands Awards Evening for her work in helping to mentor local schoolchildren.

Rhian studied maths and finance at Loughborough University befroe joining Dyke Yaxley in 2011, and has been helping out with the Institute’s BASE programme.

The programme encourages students aged beween 16 and 19 to find out more about careers in accountancy and finance, as well as giving them chance to network with other professionals at a trade exhibition.

Rhian said: “I had a great time volunteering in this programme.  It was a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the community, and inspire future generations.

“To be nominated for this award was an added bonus.”

Rhian, who is currently training for her ACA chartered accountancy qualification, was selected for the final from 64 mentors, who were involved in five BASE heats held across the West Midlands.

Although she missed out on the top award, judges said all six of the finalists had contributed greatly to the competition by mentoring the students taking part.

The West Midlands Awards Ceremony was held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
