Tasty treats bring in charity cash

Kind hearted staff from Dyke Yaxley have been enjoying tasty treats - all in the name of charity.

The team at Dyke Yaxley hosted their very own cake sale on a Valentine’s Day theme, and raised over £110 for their chosen good causes for the year.

Events co-ordinator, Jackie Young, said: “The event was a huge success with everyone here at our offices, and there was some incredibly stiff competition in our show-stopper event.

“Our staff really worked hard to create cakes that stood out in the crowd and after some tough judging from our managing director, Laurie Riley, our overall winner was Hannah Faye-Holloway.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who spent their free time baking their very best creations for the sale, and to everyone who so generously bought the cakes throughout the day.”

The money raised through the sale will now be split between Dyke Yaxley’s charities for 2014/15 – the Shrewsbury branch of Parkinson’s UK and Autism West Midlands.

“Every year we nominate a charity or charities and focus our effort on raising as much cash as possible for the chosen causes,” said Jackie.

“This latest donation has been added to our total so far, and is a real step forward in our progress towards our target of £2,000 this year.”

Head judge Laurie – who is renowned for his lemon drizzle cake! – said he had been impressed by the standard of the cakes created in this latest fund raising challenge.

“We are always inundated with tasty treats thanks to the efforts of our staff and this year’s sale was just as popular as ever.”

The cake sale is just one of the fund raising challenges team members support – others include a girls v boys netball match, quizzes, Question of Sport night, poker night, cricket evening auction and a Christmas card donation board.
